Ways to Check Your Disability Case Status in Ohio

Use the SSA’s Online Portal

The Social Security Administration (SSA) offers a secure way to check your disability claim online.

  • Visit ssa.gov
  • Create or log in to your my Social Security account
  • Go to “Check the Status of an Application”
  • You’ll see updates like:
  • Application received
  • Case under review
  • Decision made
  • Appeal status (if applicable)

This is the fastest and easiest method.

Call the SSA Directly

You can also call the SSA’s toll-free number:

  • 1-800-772-1213
  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • If you’re hard of hearing, use TTY: 1-800-325-0778

Be ready to provide your:

  • Social Security number
  • Application confirmation number (if available)
  • Any personal details they may ask to verify your identity

Contact the Ohio Disability Determination Services (DDS)

The Ohio DDS office reviews medical evidence and makes the disability decision. If your application is under medical review, you can contact them:

  • Ohio DDS: (614) 438-1200
  • They can give case-specific updates, especially if your file is being reviewed by a disability examiner.

What You'll Need to Check Your Status

To get a case update, make sure you have:

  • Your Social Security number
  • Any reference or application number
  • Your full name and date of birth

What the Status Updates Mean

Common status updates include:

  • Pending Review: SSA has received your application but hasn’t started reviewing it yet
  • Medical Decision Pending: Your case is under medical review by Ohio DDS
  • Decision Made: A decision has been reached—watch for a letter in the mail
  • Appeal in Process: Your appeal is being reviewed, or a hearing is being scheduled

Always follow up if your case has had no movement for 60+ days, especially if the SSA requests no additional documents.
