Updated 07/21/2025

Keeping your address updated with the Social Security Administration (SSA) is crucial if you’re receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits in Ohio. Failing to report your new address promptly can lead to missed payments, important notices, or appointment letters, which could delay or affect your benefits.

Find out if you qualify for SSDI benefits. Pre-qualify in 60 seconds for up to $4,018 per month and 12 months back pay.

Please answer a few questions to help us determine your eligibility.

1. Why Updating Your Address Matters

Updating your address ensures:

  • SSDI payments and notices reach you on time
  • You don’t miss Continuing Disability Review (CDR) appointments or other SSA communications
  • Your records stay accurate for Medicare and other benefits coordination

2. Ways to Change Your Address

Here are the methods to update your address with SSA:

a. Online via My Social Security Account

  • Log in to your my Social Security account at ssa.gov/myaccount
  • Go to “My Profile” and select “Update Contact Information”
  • Enter your new address and the effective date of the change
  • Confirm the update to ensure it is processed

b. By Phone

Call SSA’s toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778)

Speak to a representative and provide your Social Security number, old address, and new address

Phone lines are typically open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

c. In Person at Your Local SSA Office

  • Visit your nearest Social Security office in Ohio
  • Bring a valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, state ID, or passport)
  • Complete any required forms provided by SSA staff to update your record

3. When to Update Your Address

Update your address as soon as you move or know your move-in date to avoid delays in mail delivery or payment notices. It’s also recommended to update your address with:

  • Medicare, if you’re enrolled
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI), if you receive SSI along with SSDI

4. Double-Check Confirmation

After submitting your address change:

  • Log back into your my Social Security account after a few days to ensure your new address is listed
  • If you updated by phone or in person, call SSA to confirm the change was processed
